The client brief was to design an exhibition booth for Articolo Lighting for the ICFF Exhibition at the Javits Centre, New York. Articolo is an Australian design studio that explores the ‘art of light’ through handcrafted artisanal and bespoke lighting pieces. Founded in Melbourne in 2012 by Nicci Green, who is inspired by European design and aims to insert Australian sensibility, honesty and playfulness into every piece. The booth needed to reflect the brand and its ethos within the space and include a modular system reflective of the brand.

Concept Development
The concept behind the project was to immerse the visitors into the world of Articolo Lighting. The space showcases Articolos ethos, aesthetics and shadow play of light that is inherent in their fixtures. Streamlined forms and diffused light provide the space with a monolithic and brutalist feel, which evokes the sense of a domestic art gallery with a contemporary, minimalistic ambience that is sensible, elegant and refined. The palette utilised throughout the space plays on this and emphasizes natural and subtle materials with a rich, earthy sense.

Walking through the intimately quiet space visitors are immersed in the world of Articolo lighting. The minimalist colour palette allows the products to be emphasised and allows the unique patterns and movements of shadows to be viewed.

As you enter from both entries you are greeted with luxe custom-made seating in velvet and suede, creating an elegant and tactile space that provides a sensory delight against the neutral backdrop. Placing seating close to the entry allows the visitors to slow down and wander through the space, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the exhibition. Terrazzo arch display cases line the centre walls of the booth, encapsulating each collection and showcasing Articolo’s pieces providing a sense of discovery and inspiration.
